Jury Selection

Jury Selection is the most critical part of any trial.  It is the one and only opportunity counsel has to interact with potential jury members.  JDL’s trial consultants are trained to make the best of the opportunity to develop jury rapport, and to adequately question jurors and evaluate non-verbal cues.

When retained for jury selection, JDL’s trial consultant discusses the case in its entirety with counsel.  They review all pertinent documents and meet with all pertinent witnesses, if necessary.  Thereafter, JDL designs voir dire questions and proceeds to trial with counsel.

Trial consultants assist counsel in empanelling a jury that is capable of fairly and objectively evaluating a client’s case.  Consultants often develop on the spot questions for counsel based upon juror responses.  Consultants are trained to design appropriate questions in an effort to have a juror stricken for cause and/or to attempt to rehabilitate good jurors, when possible.

Clients often tell us that Jury Selection is the most difficult part of the trial.  Because Jury Selection is the most important part of a trial, it is always a reassurance and invaluable asset to have a trial consultant assist counsel at this phase of the trial.

When the jury is empanelled, consultants often stay for opening statement.  This enables counsel to follow up with the consultant during the trial to discuss strategies, and to get additional insight as to juror reaction, to modify direct and cross examination of witnesses, if necessary, and to prepare compelling closing statements that summarize the evidence while staying in tune with the jury panel.
